Yesterday afternoon we made a quick call to action to two critical bills that NAMI Montana has been working on for the past few months.

  • HB 912 - Rep. Steven Kelly - Establish a forensic mental health facility in Eastern Montana

  • HB 949 - Rep. Mary Caferro - Require the state of Montana to create a fee structure and rules for community commitments.

Both bills passed the Second Reading of the house. HB 912 passed on a 36-14 vote. HB 949 passed on a 37-11.

These are massive votes, especially at this point of the Legislature. Thank you so much for your support.

HB 949 went through third reading today and passed with a 33-17 vote! It’s onto Governor Gianforte’s desk for his signature!

HB 912 was directed to Senate Finance and Claims for an additional vote in that Committee. Hopefully we can wrap that up and move on. There was a ton of work done on the financing in order to clear the House, so hopefully we’ll be in great shape.

If you’d like to make a quick advocacy call, in support of HB 949 clearing that Committee. The number is 406-444-4800. Just tell them that you’d like to leave a message for the Senate Finance and Claims Committee in support of HB 949 to build a forensic hospital in Eastern Montana.

Thank you so much for your support. We hope that you and your family have a wonderful Easter!
